Up and Down

This post is from Mike – made on Mel’s phone.

(This may be sung to the tune of “The Wheels on the Bus” but that’s not required.)

The Appalachian Trail goes up and down,
up and down,
up and down.
The Appalachian Trail goes up and down, from Georgia up to Maine.
The hikers on the trail go up and down,
up and down,
up and down.
The hikers on the trail go up and down,
in the sun and rain.

Mel and Mike and Tim camped out last night,
out last night,
out last night.
Mel and Mike and Tim camped out last night,
in the pouring rain.
(We might be insane!)

  3. Darren says:

hey, now it’s stuck in my head too!

maybe you’re getting the rain out of the way….. maybe it’ll rain for a couple of days and that’s it…… maybe……

The wit and wisdom of the MGCC Secretary has not been dampened.

  5. Perry says:

Clever song, how many times you think you will have sung it till you arrive at your destination?
Funny thing came to mind, when I read the lyrics, the thought came to me about what do you talk about,or how many songs will you sing on your very, very, very long journey?

    Ha,ha,yuck, yuck, yuck,food for thought,be safe Mike.

I love to go a’wandering along the mountain track
and as I go I love to sing, my knapsack on my back:
Valdaree! Valdarah! Valdaree! Valdarah ha ha haha ha
    Valdaree! etc,.

I wave my hand to all I meet and they wave back to me
And blackbirds sing so loud and clear from every greenwood tree
    Repeat chorus

Something like that. Just to get that other song out of your mind and replace it with something – worse? Valda hahahahahaha! You’re in our thoughts 86,400 times a day!

  7. Val says:

Mike-I liked your little ditty and how it captured the first few days of your hike so far. Sounds like plenty of ups and downs and a little rain… combined with some good humor.

  8. Susan S says:

Catchy tune! I hope it doesn’t stick in your heads all the way to Maine or you will truly be insane!!

  9. MN says:

MG: Nice! I expect by the time you reach NH the prose will be Frost quality.

  10. Mike says:

Thank you to of you who’ve commented on this post. I hope you’re all wrong – if this song stays in my head until Maine, I’m doomed! MN – good one!

  11. Mel says:

Oh man, I just got this one out of my head and now it’s back! Oh well, better than the, “She’ll be coming round the mountain when she comes…”
